This refers to the cover story “Does India really need a President (TSI July 8). It is a sad and naked fact that the largest democracy’s Supreme Commander is only a rubber stamp. Do we really need such a president is a question worth thinking and discussion. Your covey story raised a big question to the thinking people of India, Yes, why then we need to waste such a lot of money, energy and time for this futile exercise. The need of a president arises only when we face a constitutional crisis. In such situation that can definitely be tackled by the supreme judiciary of this country. If at all we need a president the present system of electing the president should be reviewed and along with the elected representatives all the citizens of India (Eligible Voters) should also get a chance to vote their opinion. These days a good number of these representatives even indulge in horse trading. To stop this we need to find a solution as early as possible. The present electing system of the president definitely need change, it should be re-checked and reviewed. People’s representation is a must in this election. Indian think tanks should find a solution to this. Medias like TSI should come forward and take initiative to implement the changes.
