THANKS FOR BEAUTIES OF NATURE
A
tired German housewife went off to a small Italian island for a vacation. But everyday
she was distressed to see how the tourist and churchgoers who had rowed over the island, left it littered with empty bottles and cans and plastic bags. So every evening she stayed there, she would go around in the twilight, gather all this litter in a plastic bag and take it over and burn it in the outdoor fireplace.
One evening she met an elderly man doing the same thing. She had seen him in church in the mornings and so they got into a conversation. He explained why he wsa also cleaning up after the visitors, "Madam," he said, "it seems to me that just going to Mass in the morning is not enough proof of my faith. By this cleaning up of the grounds around, I am just making uo for people''s desecration of Nature''s beauty."
