The purpose of this study was to determine the
administrative roles, communication patterns and
decision making
capabilities of the tertiary
academic administrators of Immaculate Conception College – La Salle as ascertained by their
subordinates and by themselves to design an administrative development program for the latter. The tertiary academic administrators evaluate themselves and they are also evaluated by their subordinates with respects to the following administrative roles: leadership, managerial, and curriculum – instructional leadership. They also determined the extent of specific communication patterns they utilize in the following directions of communication: downward, upward, horizontal and grapevine. The extent that the tertiary academic administrators manifest in their decision making capabilities in the following phrases: problems identification, generation of alternatives, evaluation of alternatives, and implementation of the decision are also determined by them and by their subordinates. The descriptive survey method of research was used in this study. In the light of the findings of the study, the researcher concludes that although the academic administrators manifested capabilities in performing their administrative roles making sound decisions and utilizing and combination of communication patterns that contributed to the attainment of the goals of the school, still, there were certain areas that they need to improve.
