The scene is all too familiar. The bars have closed and "It" comes home. Normally "It" is "He" During the day
he works a good paying job and starts his day by kissing his loving wife goodbye. The children like seeing this side of Daddy.
After he has left she''ll make sure the kids get off to school on time. Her five room apartment needs to be clean and spotless for her family. A hot meal must be prepared so her husband eats well before going out with the guys again. A long sleeve shirt hides the bruises from last night. But now it''s past one and the young ones are sleeping soundly, almost. There''s a dirty cup in the sink. The battle has begun.
Falling asleep around eleven she hears him come in. He reeks of budweiser and stale cigarette smoke. He wants some loving and he wants it now. It doesn''t matter the children are in the next room. Her weak fight encourages him. When she does a closed fist or open hand shuts her up. Being accused of seeing other men she suffers his abuse. But the most frailest of victims lie in fear. He has come home "It" again.
Abuse observed by children can be translated as a justified way of life or reason to hide any and all emotions for fear of retributions. Boys observing
fathers abusing their mothers may develop a lessor respect for females. Research data even supports sons of abusers may become abusers without meaning to. What about the young girls in these relations?
They either become stronger and make their lives productive or copy their mothers in all future realtionships. Being a female means being controlled by a man. Subjecting themselves to multiple affairs they allow men to use and abuse them. Why do they do it? They Learned it! Just like the boys learned to subject females to ridicule, their sisters discover their role in life.
Fortunately for the children of today resources exist to clear up the situations created by abusive mothers and fathers. We need to see more homes for abused wives are available.
Society must encourage more women to come forward for help. And most importantly, men and women have to realize what they are doing to
innocent young persons witnessing the assaults on a routine basis.
Youngsters are what we make of them. Thier well being ought to be our number one priority. Even if that means leaving a bad relationship. Although this may be difficult, it should only be done when nothing else works. So long as we don''t wait too long that is. Children are too precious to inherit bad memories.
