People in supportive relationships have lower risks of heart diseases, a new study has found.

The study found that people, who are bereft of emotional support and understanding from their partner have 34 per cent increased risk of heart diseases.

For the study, scientists at University College London followed more than 9,000 people for 12 years.

They asked participants if they felt able to confide in their partner, talking to them made problems worse, and the extent of support offered by the person, reports the Telegraph .

The researchers found that people in most negative relationships were 1.34 times more likely to suffer s a heart attack, angina or chest pain than those who had supportive partners.

British Heart Foundation nurse Cathy Ross said it is necessary to identify groups that are less likely to receive emotional support.
