Offlate, we hear a lot of animal rights activists voicing their concern about the survival of the
tiger. NDTV has started a signature campaign and are going to have a "march" to "spread the message". It is good to see people taking such
efforts for a "worthy cause". If only such efforts were directed at saving humans instead. With people all around us in poverty (not to mention other problems like communal violence, dowry related problems, increase in the number of murders and rape cases to name a few), we need to ask ourselves, which is more
important -- to save human beings or to save wild animals like the tiger? The tiger maybe fewer in number but the life of a human being is far more important. A lot of deaths can be avoided on a daily basis if we address or take efforts to addres our social problems like poverty,
lack of
proper medical facilities, lack of hygenic living condtions, lack of proper
education and spiritual guidance, etc. We should never forget that the rate of people commiting suicide is increasing every year. The least we can do is spread awareness about such "life-threatening"
issues.
