The other day there was a story of a woman being thrown out of the house by her jeweler husband in Mumbai as she failed to
produce a son! She had to go out with a 2 month old baby and a two year old girl. After the first daughter she had to undergo two abortions as they found out the sex of the unborn child The third time she carried the child to the full term only to realize that it was a girl too. He husband and his family simply threw her out and shut the gates. They even threatened that she would be locked up in a mental asylum! Is it the women who decide the sex of the unborn child? The male sperm cells have to bombard the walls of the ovum for that happen. It is quality and
number of the sperm cells and a number of other factors that determines the sex of the new-born. The alkalinity or acidity of the vagina may influence too. But by far, it is the male who decides the sex of the child and not the female. But the entire blame is on the latter. It is a lopsided view and it can be only sheer madness emerging from ignorance to castigate the females on this issue. It does not shock anyone here as many such incidents are reported in the Indian media. It is
really sad that so many prefer male children in this modern era. It is really a shock in the context of the women’s status in the country. The hype abut the success stories about a few women cannot hide the shameful reality of the women here. How can any one deny the right for women to even exist? Celebration of the International women’s day and all is good, but it is time to pause and reflect.
