What
percentage would you give to body language?
How much for the modulation or voice control?
The majority
of us would give about 60 to 70
percentage to words. A negligible percentage for you body physiology and voice modulation. We all think that we communicate through words in both verbal and written
communication.
But the truth is far from it.
If you allot 100 percentage to an effective communication, words carry an insignificant share--- just 8 percentage.
Voice modulation has a bigger share: 35 percentage.
But body language takes the lion’s share :55%! 2 percentage is for other factors.
Why is it so?
Communication becomes successful when it brings about the desired results.
The meaning of communication is in the result.
If someone simply utters words in a monotonous way without modulating his voice (using high, low and intermediate pitches to suite the relative importance of what is said, and effectively using pause and speed) people will simply doze off:. they will not even hear your outpouring. Modulation makes them listen to what you say. The variation in pitch, speed and voice can capture one’s attention.
Body language –gestures, posture, appearance, eye-contact, belief in what is said—is the most important aspect. If you do not believe in what you ay, your audience will immediately understand it and they will ignore your words. The subconscious mind is able to understand your belief level and sincerity from your body cues.
