Whence we come and whither we go?
We are living in a mysterious universe and we feel both birth and death are enigmas.
There are scientific explanations as to how a fetus gets birth when a sperm cell joins an egg cell. We know their structure and how they carry the DNA of the father and mother. But consciousness does not go beyond five years and it ends a little before clinical death occurs. The whole eternity of time before and after is in total darkness.
Man has been constantly bombarded with the questions as to whether there is a superior and more powerful spiritual presence in it imparting a purpose for this fleeting second of life ever since his appearance on this planet. Due to the helplessness he felt before the mighty forces of nature –which often brought untold suffering to him- he began to deify them and try to mitigate their anger though prayers, sacrifices and supplications. Along with this he sought to please the seemingly good powers and offer prayers and hymns to please them and get more gifts.
But to day he knows how they work. He also knows that they are just like him natural occurrences of the energy-- matter-- combine destined to disappear for ever before long from here.
Man knows he is an infinitesimally small energy bubble just formed and poised to burst out any moment. Man will disappear from here and the universe without leaving any trace whosever. He does not know whether the energy bubble which molded him will ever join into the universal pool or wander just like that. We do know the physical matter which constituted him just mingles with other matter here. But the particular combination which gave the consciousness –that spark- just disappears leaving no trace whatsoever. .
