STILL GOING FOR FILTHY CHANG’AA WHEN THERE IS GOOD ALCOHOL AROUND IN KERICHO KENYA At first before the coming of brewers like the Mohan me akin and the other new brewers to our beloved country Kenya, Alcohol drinkers used to depend on the alcohol that was brewed and cooked in the villages or in the slums under very unhealthy conditions .In some places in our cities and towns, it is very difficult to differentiate the sewage drainage systems and a spring .They both look alike. The dirty water from the burst pipes in the cities ends up in the spring. All the dirt that the rain water gathers from the town and city centers, both liquid and solid end up in the small rivers that run through the slums and go on flowing towards the lakes. It is this dirty water that is used to cook and distill the alcohol that is sold in our slums and alcohol consumers go for it in their hundreds.
In other places in the villages where you could expect the conditions to be better than they are in the slums in the cities,if it is not because of the unhygienic conditions under which the drink is cooked ,it is the cultures and traditions of the various tribes which make our beloved country Kenya .Some tribes and some very weird processes to the procedures of the normal cooking of the drink .Their very odd rumors about this in the slums that makes drinking this stuff a very risky thing.
There are rumors that in some Kenyan tribes ,or just some peddlers ,they add sisal juices to the drink directly .They claim that this ,helps to add strength and quality generally to the stuff .Sisal juices have never been used as spices or agents of adding tastes to foods since this world was created ,and that is , perhaps if I’m not well informed .Otherwise the thing could even be poisonous to man .
And in some places ,sometimes back in to history ,it was rumored that some of the brewers or dealers had been caught red handed with some weird instruments that they used in their alcohol selling businesses that looked like witch doctors instruments of work. Believe or not but it is said that they used human body parts in their efforts to trap enough customers for their businesses .It was said that sometimes they used dried human hands to stir the drink in the pots and sometimes ,they used human skulls in the kitchens to gather with the stone that are used in the cooking places, and in other places ,special rites had to be carried out before the drink was ready for consumption and in other places there were taboos that had to be watched before the drink is ready for consumption and after it is ready for consumption .We were not able to get enough information about this beyond this point ,but believe it or not ,it was all done in the name of selling Best quality alcohol
The Kenyan government did a very wise thing in allowing the brewing of this stuff by only licensed brewers so that it was prepared under very high hygienic conditions and not what used to happen in the slums or villages .This was expected to save the consumers of the stuff from all the rumors that had been going around about it. Though it was against the wish of the then president of this country Mr. Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi but these conditions forced him to allow the consumption of the stuff in the country.
Despite all the efforts to save the ignorant alcohol brewers and consumers form harm due to their ignorance ,it is very sad to see them still clustering in the village or slum brewed alcohol selling joints .Despite all the risks that are involved ,and they are aware of them ,They still go to this places and drink the stuff .Believe me readers, the stuff is poisonous if excessively used and the deaths that it has caused have been witnessed severally around the country, yet they still go following it in the slums where they consume it in unhygienic conditions .
The idea of having Factories to manufacture this stuff was Avery wise one and many of us saw it as a step ahead in development. This helped to provide cheap clean and healthy alcohol for the alcohol consumers .There are certain brands of the stuff that cost only fifty shillings for a quarter a litter and ten shillings for a fifteen milliliter sachet .
So with all this around, there is no reason why someone should go fooling around drinking such dirty stuff .Or it they are shy of taking the stuff openly, because those places look a bit private, then the manufacturing companies should do something for this people so that the stuff can be delivered at their door step or have it sold under better conditions than what we have nowadays.
