A New Year
Decision Most of us are a little
overweight. There could be many among us who are obese. There is a ratio
of weight versus height, popularly known as the Body Mass Index. Divide your weight (find it out from a weighing balance-bathroom scale) in kg by the square of your height in Meter. This should not exceed say, 25. If it is less it is good. But if the number is greater you are
overweight or obese.
Reduction of weight is very important for all of us, of all ages groups. Let us make a resolution to reduce our weight by say 5-10kg in 2009. I am, in fact going for the arduous task of reducing it by 10 kg. (I am now 75kg). But my height is1.64M. See my growth is sideways.
This is not going to be easy. I have to do away with meat (which I love), snacks, fried stuff, sweets and a lot more. A lot of vegetables will find place in my tummy even though I do not relish even the very thought. All my experience in this is of having tried to live with only vegetables and milk for a week over a bet with a friend of mine. Well, I did win the bet but it was an ordeal indeed. Suppose I had continued with it! Now I would not have been suffering from hyper tension and the associated problems. Let there be vegetables of all hues --green, yellow, purple, red, brown and all. Start eating them raw or boiled without any spice to get the maximum benefit.
Also let us fill our stomach, whenever we feel the crunch, with fruits-oranges, grapes, bananas, or natural fruit of any hue or taste.
It may be difficult to altogether avoid the ‘nice foods” you used to enjoy. So do have a taste of them at times. But then good taste is very addictive so we have to be on our guard.
And let us move more. May be 30minute’s brisk walking a day is enough. If you have no complication, may be running can be tried. Swimming is perhaps the best.
Anyway there is a fundamental requisite: have a scale and weigh yourself often.
I have decided do the above as my only
decision this year is to knock off 10kg. Well do you have something similar? Good luck.
