The objective of this report is to make a clear contention of the topic on genetically modified

(GM) foods. Discussion in this write-up is to provide a conclusive proposition that is in favour of GM foods or in another word a firm position is aimed on ‘FOR’ statement regarding the subject. An in-depth study has been carried out on genetic modification from the point of creation to its emergence in the commercial market today. Some of the terms and list of available GM products in the market has been introduced in the contextual background. The distinctive role of intended GM crops and genetically engineered (GE) animals in different fields has also being brought up in the first two sections of the report. Perspective of various stakeholders towards the technology has been evaluated in the following section. Roles of government, support from different industry organisations, businesses and environmentalists’ perception are analysed from a positive approach. Challenges for the development of GM products such as consumers and marketing concerns, issue on allergencity, gene transfer and outcrossing of pollen are constructively expounded in the third section. A further discussion on the challenges are found in section four which can be categories into human health risks, environmental hazards and economic concerns. Issues are addressed in relation to the counter-measure implemented by various stakeholders and governments with an optimistic outcome for the acceptance of the technology. Significant list of overwhelming benefits from economic, health, medical, environmental and social aspects for various parties are also highlighted in this section. The final section of the report reaffirmed the position that creation of public awareness on genetic modification is a must in order to impart the knowledge. Such decision requires a supportive anticipation from various stakeholders and governments. Therefore, the technology needs to be critically adopted and further established for the interest of the nations.
