Malin Kundang stories contained in the form of oral literature (legend) and literary writing (short stories and drama). As a literary Minangkabau, Malin Kundang story is a manifestation of the Minangkabau culture, the matrilineal system. This review article will answer many questions about how the forms of manifestation of matrilineal system, why the matrilineal system such as found in Malin Kundang stories and legends such functions for the Minangkabau. Questions will be answered by using the theory of oral neotics. The theory assumes that literature is a manifestation of complex ideas, ideas, values and norms. Based on these assumptions will be analyzed Malin Kundang story either in the form of a legend and literature. From the analysis based on the theory will be found a gap between the manifestation of the matrilineal system with matrilineal manifestations in literature; difference occurs because in line with the times, that the legend is not the same age with the age of literature and also in line with perkebangan in Minangkabau society is changed from matrilineal system to a patrilineal system, and based on those two things, it is known that the literature is a container for the Minangkabau society to convey ideas, ideas, values, and norms.
