Utilizing
Human Resources in South Asia
Khilendra
Basnyat
Human resources play a very central, critical and significant
role in the overall development of any country. Such resources are of immense
importance in south Asian Countries.
Massive
utilization of such resources should increase both agricultural and industrial
production for spreading their effect to the public. Since this will bring
about high rate of gainful employment, there is a strong possibility of the
increase in the purchasing power of the south Asian people.
In south Asian
countries, such programs should be launched which utilize maximum local labor. For
this purpose, utilization of native labor force should be the guiding policy of
the respective governments of these countries.
In all south
Asian countries, the vast majority of the population is engaged in agricultural
pursuits. However, due to the scarcity of agricultural land and the traditional
practice of single crop farming from the limited land, the labor force has not
been utilized to the fullest possible extent. Therefore, labor- intensive
methods of production should be adopted to increase the volume of agricultural
production. Likewise, the expanded activities in rural areas and resettlement
programs have to be encouraged to help the mobilization of the so far
underutilized labor force in various development sectors.
