This custom comes from Greece. In ancient Greece, people believe in the Moon Goddess--Artemis . On her annual birthday celebration,in order to show their special respectful feelings to Artemis, people always put honey cakes and shining candles on the altar to make a kind of sacred atmosphere . Afterwards, with time passes , because they love their children , when celebrating birthday of their chidren,ancient Greek also likes to put the things such as cakes on table , put some little candles , and add a new program — — blowing these burning bright candles extinguished . They believe that the burning candles have somehow mysterious strength, if the child made a wish in heart and then blow all the candles extinguished , the good desire of the child can surely come ture .
