The Iraqi War: A Waste of U.S. Dollars

Article Summary by: Ariatdadisco

The Iraqi War: A Waste of U.S. Dollars The war in Iraq has cost the U.S. close to four hundred billion dollars
since the U.S. invaded Iraq in March of 2003. With more than two thousand U.S. soldiers casualties, it leads one to think whether or not the Iraqi war has been worth it. Well, has it? This has been a question many politicians, historians and economists have tried to answer. Well I, Ariana Lorelle Guzman, senior at CARES will now try to answer that very same question. Has the worth been war the billions its cost? Read and find out what I think. The overall occupation of Iraq is proving to be more costly than the war itself. This means that us (meaning the U.S.)staying in Iraq is costing the U.S. more than the war which includes the armed forces and weapons combined. This further proves the theory that if the U.S. left Iraq, it would save the U.S. more money. But why would the Bush administration want to save money when they clearly say that we have enough money to spend and apparently waste? Let''s face it. President Bush is in denial about exactly how much money is being spent in Iraq. Hopefully he''ll realize this before more money is spent and more American and innocent Iraqi lives are lost. According to BBC News "The Bush Administration has chosen to finance the war by off-budget emergency supplemental appropriations, rather than include Iraq spending in the budget sent to Congress". What does that exactly does that mean? I''ll explain. The Bush Administration is asking for extra monies for the war in Iraq rather than including these monies in the budget that Bush has to send to Congress. This extra spending has left America in a financial deficit which was predicted to exceed five hundred billion dollars in 2004. Who knows how much the deficit is now. America will have to pay in taxes for this Iraqi war deficit Bush has put America in. According to Yale University economics professor William Nordhaus "Like a teenager who gets further in debt on a credit card, the Bush Administration is racking up costs that will have to be paid in the future in higher taxes or lower government programs." Well, Bush is not only using American tax dollars to fund an unpopular war but in the future after he''s long gone as President, Americans will still be literally paying for his mistakes. Is this right or even fair. This liberal hopes with the recent shift in the House of Representatives that this will change in the next couple of years before I have to pay for taxes that were accrued during a war that I neither agree with nor support. It''s like that saying I saw on TV about Bush. It said "Sex is back in the White House. Bush is screwing us all!" And I think whoever said that is right.
In the next five years, I predict another four hundred billion or more is spent in Iraq. This however will depend who will become President in 2008. If we have a President that is for the war than more money will be spent in Iraq and the occupation will continue. If we have a President that is against the war, than more likely the troops will be pulled out of Iraq as soon as possible. The war in Iraq has been nothing more than a feeble attempt at proving that America really is much safer at the September 11th attacks, something that is NOT getting proven on a daily basis. I do not agree with this war and I therefore conclude that too much money is being wasted on a war that was started as a search for the supposed "weapons of mass destruction". Well, there were no weapons and yet the war still continues. Why is that? I guess it''ll take another three years before we get the answer to that question.
