A
Professor returned and demanded dinner from his wife, but
his wife told him that food was not ready. When the food
was done, the
professor refused to eat believing that his wife would pet him into
doing so. But unfortunately his wife went alone to the dinning table,
finished the whole meal and went to sleep. About twenty minutes pass
one 0''clock in the morning (i.e. 1.20am), the Prof. became very hungry
and decided to do what has to be done to avoid untold ulcer. He went
into the
kitchen, put off the electric light found his way to the pot
of food and did justice to his stomach. Unknowingly to him, he was
followed by his wife, where is that useless rat that wouldn''t let me
sleep. She scolded. On hearing her voice the professor quickly ducked
to a corner and froze. But he went closer to where he was cursed and
spat; consciously making sure that her spits touched him. The Prof.
calmly cleaned his face, unruffled and continued enjoying his meal in
the dark. The next morning, his wife deliberately kicked off a
discussion with the husband (Prof.) on what happened in the kitchen
the previous night:
Wife:I nearly killed one useless rat in our kitchen early this
morning but it
was lucky.
Prof: Rats are created by God and should not be killed.
Wife: My bible tells me that the wicked shall not go unpunished; so
killing
that rat couldn¡''t have been murder.
Prof: That rat must have been hungry or may be his wife refused to
give him dinner, so it decided to help itself in our kitchen. So that
can''t be wickedness in any way.
Wife: You sound as if you knew much about that rate and the family;
if I may ask, are you a friend to the rat in question.
Prof.: That is arrant nonsense! A PhD holder in Atomic physics being
lowered to mere friend of rats. Insult! Besides, there is nothing
wrong if I defend God''s creature. He answered with a smiling face.
MESSAGES:
Problems of this nature have brought many friendships, relationship or
marriages to an abrupt end. In the above story of the event that
ensued between the said professor and his wife: simple mishaps of this
nature can tear families apart. But the mature way the Prof. handled
the misunderstanding made the whole event turned into a joke. Most
husbands wouldn''t take it kindly to be ignored and, or left hungry by
their wives, and being spat at, on the excuse of rate chasing. We
should always learn to ignore the ignorance and insensitivity of
others. The professor in our story is a responsible and responsive
husband to the core; men like him are rare. If we take into
consideration every word that comes from people''s mouth; we can''t
build an enduring and empowering bonds in our private lives. Some
persons exhibit insensitive, unreasonable and crude attitudes of
vomiting outlandish nonsense from their mouths. Not because they enjoy
saying such, but because they some times hardly know what motivates
them to say or act the way they do. Uncommon common sense entails that
we have understanding and flexibility in our dealings with people.
That way, we would cultivate and establish better relationship with
them.
