Various types of wastes, including the hazardous ones, are being generated
every day, and these have to be periodically disposed off. It is better, if we can generate resources from the waste in the form of secondary raw materials, rather than just organize its disposal. Management of
municipal garbage and municipal sewage needs use of proper strategies, since these need regular disposal. This book discusses the problems of waste, esp. from the angle of three R‘s viz. Reduction, Reuse and
Recycling of the waste. For harnessing wealth from waste, we should lay stress on Recycling. This book has seventeen Chapters in four sections, and six appendices. Chapter 2 discusses about various types of bio-medical wastes, esp. from the hospitals, and their disposal actions. Chapter 3 mainly discusses the negative aspects of use of plastic in daily life, esp. its effect on health, due to recycling of plastic wastes. Chapter 6 discusses the use of bio-gas technology for obtaining fuel and fertilizers from municipal excreta. As per Section 4 Chapter 1, we can manage waste better, by avoiding and recycling of waste. Nothing can be successful, without participation of the general public. These aspects, along with movements for reducing generation of waste, and keeping our areas clean, are discussed in Chapter 3. This book has 142 references. It is useful for the managers, administrators, policy makers, planners and the students and teachers connected with environment.
