India’s new health minister is hell bend to curtail population, and his innovative idea seems to be quite extraordinary.
What a novel idea!
India has the second largest population in the world, just behind china in this respect. In spite of being the highly populated country, it is able to produce enough grains to feed its vast population. Our technological development cannot be ignored; at the same time, the country is achieving more than 7% growth for the last few years showing that its population is not a hindrance in any matter; rather it is those large numbers of hands that are helping the country in its progress. One might argue, the poverty in India is still prevailing at an alarming rate. The reason for that is not the high population; it is the corruption in the government level that deprives the poor in the remote villages to suffer.
The minister, Ghulam Navi Azad’s contention for curbing population, is not understandable at all as he suggests to watch more TV programs until one becomes dog tired to go for any other activity including sex. What a sarcastic idea! Does he think that men and women would prefer TV over sex with the loved ones months after months? That is the irony in India. We have leaders, who never analyze the situation in depth, and suggest anything they like.
Many programs were undertaken in the past to curb population, and none worked successfully. Now this funny idea would work, the minister argues.
One other thing is, he thinks that below poverty line population is equipped with TV in every home, which is a far-fetched dream for that group. For them, the only mode of entertainment after 12 hours of hard labor is sex with their spouses. How can one expect that they sacrifice that right? The city population is not growing at that fast rate as is in the villages. Therefore, to enforce his idea on the village population, the first need is to supply TV set to every family irrespective of rich and poor.
I hope, he realizes, at least now, the non-feasibility of his idea. If not, Good Luck Mr. Minister!
