Nigeria is a creation of the British Empire, in 1914 the Northern and Southern protectorate of the geographical landmass that make up the present day Nigeria was amalgamated by Sir Fredrick Lugard. The name Nigeria was given to the country by a lady called Miss Flora Shawn who later married Sir Fredrick Lugard the first Governor General of Nigeria. Nigeria has a landmass of 923,876 square kilometer and has a population of about one hundred and fifty million people making it the most populated Black Nation in the world. She gained independent from the British government on October 1st, 1960, and became a republic on October 1st, 1963. The country has 36 states and 774 local government areas and operates a Federal constitution. Nigeria is a multicultural country, she has 400 spoken languages and about 350 cultures. There are three major languages namely Hausa, Yoruba and Ibo. The people practice Christianity, Islamic and Indigenous Religious. Nigeria is located in West Africa in the African continent and is one of the richest countries in Africa, she has large mineral deposit of crude oil, Iron ore, Tin, Colombite, coal, Gypsum, Lime stone, Bitumen, Gold, Dolomite, Jasper, Natural Gas. Nigeria is an agricultural country also, she grow the following food and cash crops in large quantity, crop as Rice, Beans, Cassava, Maze, Groundnut, Coca, Millet, Potato, Tomato, Cashew, Ginger, Onion, Pepper. She has 4 petroleum refineries, 2 iron and steel companies, 7 rolling mills, 24 Federal universities, 28 states universities,10 private universities, 18 technical, federal and state colleges of Education and 17 Polytechnic and monotechnic. The past Military Head of states/ Presidents and Prime Minister of Nigeria are Prime Minister Alhaji Tafawa Balewa 1st October 1960 to January 16th 1966. Military Head of state General Aguyi Ironsi January 16th to 29 July 1966. Military Head of state General Yakubu Gowon July 29th 1966 to July 29th 1975. Military Head of state General Murtala Mohammed 29th July 1975 to February 13th 1976 when he was assassinated. Military Head of state General Olusegun Obasanjo 13th February 1976 to 1st October 1979 when he handed over to a civilian government of President Alhaji Shehu Shagari, 1st October 1979 to 31st December 1983. Military Head of state Major General Mohammadu Buhari, 1st January 1984 to 27th August 1985. Military President General Ibrahim Babangida, 27th August 1985 to 27 August 1993. Interim Head of government Ernest Shonekon, 27th August 1993 to 17 November 1993. Military Head of state General Sani Abacha 17th November 1993 to June 7th 1998 when he died is a brief illness. Military Head of state General Abudusalami Abubarka, June 7th 1998 to may 29th 1999 when he handed over to a democratically elected government of President (General0 Olusegun Obasanjo (RETIRED) 29th May 1999 to 29th May 2003, re-elected for a second term of 4 years starting from May 29th 2003 to may 29th 2007. He is the current leader of Nigeria to date.
Nigeria is a tourist country with so many tourist attractions and culture, she has wildlife and game reserve such as Kanji Lake National Park, with the following attractions Kail hills & shrines, museum, the following animals kobus kob, baboons, buffalo, hipotragus eqinus, hartebeest, water buck, reed buck, red flaned diuker, oribi, lion, leopard, hippopotamus, warthog, red patas monkey, crocodile, python gobon viper, tree snake, cobra, puff adder, terrappin, monitor lizard, barbary shrike, fish eagle, ground hornbill, secretary bird, stone patridge, heron, kites. CHAD BASIN NATIONAL PARK has the following attraction giraffe, Camelopardalis, roan antelope, hippopotamus, hartebeest, alcelaphus red fronted gazelle, gazella rubifrons, elephant, ostrich, mangoose, jackals, ratel, turtles, giant tortoises, red monkey, porcupine, garganey, pintails, pelican, spur-winged geese, black tail godwit, glossy ibis. OKOMU NATIONAL PARK has the following attraction elephant, buffalo, snail andd fowl, crocodile, fish, worm water stream, tea stream and salt water. OLD OYO NATIONAL PARK has the following elephant, buffalo, antelope, western hartebeest, kob, red flanked duiker, grey duiker, water buck, bush buck, oribi, warthog, nile crocodile, rock python, land tortoise, cobra, garbon viper, guinea fowl, hammer kop, white headed plover, african fish eagle, bush fowl, yellow manttled whydah, senegal parrot, Senegal fish finch, grey hornbill, grey herons. One of the biggest game reserves in Africa is in Nigeria it is Yankari game reserve there are also some other historical, religious, war site to be visited. If u come to Nigeria u will find it very interesting. The people are peace loving very understanding kind hearted and very religious it’s a place u will like to stay much as they are very nice and kind to strangers, u re welcome to Nigeria. And ve rich traditional dressing culture and different types of traditional food. English is the official language spoken, but if u go inland there is this broken type of English that is also spoken. We have two types of weather, the dry season from November to March, while the rainy season (wet season) is from April to October, we ve one time zone that is GMT, one hour ahead of Britain.
