The Dark Side of Bright Networking

Article Summary by: risha

Original Author: Risha
As a human being we are very fortunate to have a unique skill of communication- verbal and non-verbal i.e.,writing, which
is not gifted to an animal.
In a real life, maintaining relationships was never easy. We are now in an edge of online world, where we find blurred lines between freinds and strangers.
A 24-year old Ria,an advertising professional, find it very troublesom
e,when she faced explicit messages on her scrapbook and lewd comments on her pictures, online from her landlord. She often managed to hold off his so-called coffee invitations by simply avoiding a face-to-face confrontations in real life. But she was stumped when her 45 year old landlord sent her an invite on her Orkut profile.Thinking that refusing such a request would definitely lead to an unpleasant situation , she was forced to accept the invite. But she got down when she find indescent proposals as mentioned above. She felt that real life innuendos turned in to a full-fledged verbal battery online. After almost a month of this blocking him was the only option.
It is one of the so many stray cases, but as online communities catch on,shades of grey have started to stand out on the so-far hunky-dory platform.
It can get unbielivably daunting to balance these virtual relationships, since you barely have any control here. Accepting a person''s request to be friends online allow them access to a level of intimacy that you might not be comfortable with. Because granting them right to your page means giving them access to all the content yuo''re put up there- photos, contents, appointments, lists of your interests and your blog musing.
In real life you can share a different type of relationship with different people but with social online networking sites such as Orkut and Facebook, you are forced to squeeze everyone in to a single pot. So much so that the definition of the word ''friend'' here has become so vague that it also includes perfect strangers.
Some people find it beneficial, as they get great opportunities through this like good job or a big business deals which turn on their careers. It is okay but it happens only sometimes.
This sort of communication is still a dilemma. But grownups find it very easy. The concept of friendship is a tricky game for kids, as they are not aware of some unexpected and unavoidable dangers like one happened with Aman, who have been kidnapped and killed by his very own online freinds.
&nbs               Some might argue that little bit fun is not bad and never hurt anyone. But it can get a bit too not to handle when the steamy banter originates from close circuit.Like Ricky, who stumbled when he found her mom flirting with someone online. He get it all from his mom''s profile.
These are only  handful cases. Thousands are still going on. So it is better to explore the possibilities and let our childrens know the side effects of online freindships, but before that we should also take the things right way ourselves, then only we can get others off from this BLACK online networking.
