Driving across the United States there is a new trend with the
drivers on the road. "The Cell Phone"! Making a decision
to write about
cell phones, driving and the dangers that comes with it. A survey poll
was given to 3, 000 people to fill out on a day at the rest stop. More
than 2/3 of the
drivers admitted to either almost having an accident or
having an accident because they were on the phone.
One driver admitted on her survey of driving off the
interstate and
into the ravine on the side of interstate 75 in Georgia because she was
trying to answer her phone. Another driver showed attached picture that
he keep on his visor as a reminder not to us his phone file driving.
Without being too graphic, he almost lost his head, when he went
through the windshield on State Road 27 in Florida. Almost every driver
had a story to tell about his or her experience of driving while on a
cell phone. To tell them all I would have to make this a five part
series.
Seeing the worst driving and cell phone use, on interstate 95 and
interstate 75, drivers change lanes virtually running the other driver
of the road, even driving on the shoulder while racing each other, and
talking on the phone.
While interviewing and reading drivers survey from Florida, it
revealed a new fade, in Florida, driver''s text messaging while driving.
How is that done? One driver''s survey stated he can talk to work,
family and friends faster texting then on the phone, "because I don''t
need to look to text. He says."
Conducting business, while driving is by far the most dangerous form
of driving possible. You are never paying attention to the road when
you are trying to close a business deal. As a writer and the owner of a
busy consulting firm, and on the road quite a lot; it is suggested to
try never to speak with clients or even family while driving, but if it
is necessary, use a Bluetooth or other headset and never have the phone
to the ear.
All States should make it mandatory to use wireless headsets for
cell phones while driving. So far the states that have made using cell
phones while driving illegal, have adopted the use of headsets on
cellular phones while driving.
These eight states have adopted the law of banding cell phone use
while driving; Arkansas - only in force for school bus drivers, Arizona
- effective only for school bus drivers, California - effective Jan.
2008 it will be banned for all drivers, Connecticut, banned use for all
drivers on the their roads. Brooklyn, Ohio has passed an ordinance
making it illegal to use handheld cell phones. District of Columbia,
illegal to use a cell phone, except in an emergency. New Jersey, all
cellular use is illegal. New York - hands-free use is allowable and
emergency use of a hand-held cell phone.
Many States have legislation currently pending regarding the use of
cell phones. Most States also cover using cell phones in the case of
accidents or other law-breaking activities while driving a vehicle in
their respective traffic legislation. There are also 32 Countries,
which have banned hand-held cell phone usage.
While not all the states, provinces and territories ban the use of
cell phones, each of the state, provinces and or territories do have
"distracted driver" which are outlined in the respective Motor Vehicle
and Highway Traffic Acts for each state, province and or territory. All
other states, provinces, and territories reports, that if it is proven
that the use of a cell phone was cause for an accident, speeding or
other vehicle infraction - you will be charged.
