I will always remember 20th November, 2007 as a day of was a complete learning and industry exposure in my days of studying
media in Mumbai. R.D. National College, Bandra has organised the annual media festival from the 19th-21st Nov. All Media colleges of Mumbai participate in this annual event which includes competitions in writing, film-making, advertising, photography and the like. Industry experts from all the media products deliver their experience to the upcoming media students by way of seminars. It is a medium of direct interaction between the industry stalwarts and the aspiring media professionals.
Our visit on the 2nd day of the festival as a group of media students has left all of us thinking about our goals for joining
journalism. The lectures given by famous journalists as Jerry Pinto, Mr. Sridhar and others helped us in understanding the present scenario of the various mass media forms like films, TV production, advertising, print journalism and the like. Mr. Jerry Pinto became the heartthrob of all the students who attended his seminar on journalism. He is ‘one in a million’. The frank, bold, honest, energy-packed, killer attitude of his flocked him with the big crowd of his admirers.
The screening of the 7 short-listed 15-mins films made by students from various mass media colleges was also an enriching experience. A total of 30 films had been submitted. The students were to make short films based on the style and genre of some famous bollywood
directors as Late Guru Dutt Ji, Manirathnam, Ram Gopal Verma, Madhur Bhandarkar. Out of the 4 films which we viewed, ‘Simon Says…’ was highly appreciated for its story content, style and shots representative of RGV. All the films were judged by famous industry directors and actors and a one-to-one interaction between the judges and the film-directors (students) helped the latter in understanding their areas of improvement.
The festival is a platform for aspiring media professionals to become successful in their respective fields in times to come.
