Noted Indian Sociologist Ashis Nandy asks- if we can really get rid of expert opinions.
He posed this query in response
to a spat between two noted Indian public figures,Cine actor Sharukh Khan and Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar.
Sharukh had a major objection at Gavaskar's
expert opinion which he offered to Kolkotta night riders , a team owned by Sharukh Khan. As luck would have it,this team got a nasty defeat at all corners in just concluded IPL tournament.
Ashis Nandy raised a vaild point that in order to love a subject,we don't need to have professional qualifications related to it. He gave several instances ,where experts happen to those outside subjet area, for example,
international relations, music and arts.
It is interesting to note, media often take 'expert opinion' to solve domestic and international issues.
As a result, one may hardly develop a neutral view but moulded version of a noted event.
This trend often dissuade a reader/viewer from a matter of great concern!
Prof.Nandy wants us to carry on inquistive spirit as it may help us to gain knowledge.
He refutes,Sharukh Khan 's refusal to accept expert advice, but also pointed out, We should not go overboard with advisory roles.
In simple words, he wants us to accept a point of view with a neutral outlook. We should neither be swayed by a particular line of thought nor we should be averse to it .
