Just 2 months ago, as part of our course, we were required to furnish a thesis proposal in Economics. Actually, writing the
proposal is not a hard task, what actually bothered me was the topic or the problem I am to tackle.
I was so disappointed when I could not think of something interesting and at the same time related to Economics. I scanned undergraduate studies, published works, the internet and books. Still nothing. I started to think that I am on a course where no topic can be related.
Dead wrong! Thanks to my professor who enlightened my dark thoughts.
ECONOMICS IS EVERYWHERE. It really is everywhere. Economics is defined as a social science that deals with the allocation of scarce
resources to satisfy unlimited human wants. Thus, it deals with decision making. Time is a scarce resource, so is money and so is everything around us.
When you wake in the morning, don''t you decide what time to wake up? It is economics. When you take bath, you decide how much water to use, how long to take a bath, it is economics. You are actually part of your parents'' decision making. It simply safe to say that you are born out of economics. Even doing this article, entails decision making, thus, this is actually economics. People decide for almost everything. We choose. We select base on the limited resources available to give us satisfaction. Thus, economics is everywhere.
Isn''t this amazing? I scolded myself and felt ashamed that I be-little my soon-to-be profession, an
economist. To all economist out there, be proud.
