Abstract
Ciliwung river has various functions and potentials, one of them is for ecotourism. This research is aimed to view the physical potential of the area in order to support ecotourism. This research was conducted from November 2005 to June 2006 that took a location in Ciliwung riverside in Jagakarsa Regency, South Jakarta. The research method conducted was by identifying the topography potential and land support resources; vegetation identification; environmental pollution identification; socio-culture potential and the economy of targeted society. The method used is participative technique and field observation. The data gained is being analyzed in explorative, qualitative and quantitative ways. The result of this research indicates that geologically, the society potential and plant variation are able to support the ecotourism but river water pollution that come from people activity like garbage and liquid waste needs to be heeded. One of river water preservation that can be done is through nature conservation by the involvement of community (community-based development). It is performed through an integrated management and arrangement that will be able to raise Ciliwung river to be local tourism destination. It is expected to result in beneficial improvement of the river for its surrounding community.
