This morning was rainy and there was a touch of wind in the air.
I must admit it was nice to walk about the park in the rain
and feel the wind in my hair ... it was a few days away from
the towering heatwave we have been experiencing here in the
South of England for the last 2 years.
Everyone was togged out .. in rainproof outer clothing and so was I.
However I returned home and sat down for a moment or two and there
on my doormat was delivered by the PostMan a letter from
Prime Minister Tony Blair ... inside it contained a wonderfully
appreciative
postcard with a small pic of Tony Blair looking
very well indeed. Mr. Blair is wearing a blue shirt and a dark coloured
jacket and looks the picture of health.
It was Mr. Blair''s last day in
Office yesterday and he has sent me the
line ...
./I appreciate your kind words/ which is as it should be of course as I have
been in correspondence with Mr. Blair at No: 10 Downing Street, London,
over the last ten years ...
Mr. Blair is leaving No: 10 Downing Street, and Mr. Gordon Brown is the
New Man in the Job ... Brown is Scottish and he takes over as
the new Prime Minister. Mr. Blair''s deputy : Mr. John Prescott is also
leaving office and Harriet Harman takes over from John Prescott ...
apparently it was a close shave and Harriet Harman by a count of
ONE ... won her position as Deputy Prime Minister - it was a keenly fought contest.
Mr. Blair''s Postcard mentioned that /Tony/ has been "honoured"
greatly to serve this country as the Prime Minister for a decade ...
So its Goodbye from Mr. Blair ... I suppose he will be joining
us retired teachers and professors in a bid to
work on in the manner we are called to ...
Such is the way language is that we are /bogged down/in its
framework and every time we climb out you can be sure somebody
is going to lock us up with new punctuation rules, or find a
very lengthy metaphor or invent new images that make us
jump to attention continuously.
Its a great thrill, to receive PM Tony Blair''s postcard and while
he is still in Office ... since Brown will be "sworn in" I guess or
called up ... and will take over officially sometime this week ...
May your work be as you wish it
May your dreams be as you imagine
May you walk in the path of light
Well done! Mr. Tony Blair!
Sincerely, SM THOMPSON:
excellent Letter and postcard ... keep on reading the abstracts ... great stuff!
