The critical role of Art Education in Creativity and Critical thinking for Vocational Education

Book Summary by: ArtEducator

Original Author: Michael Joseph Lellatom

ABSTRACT THE CRITICAL ROLE OF ART EDUCATION FOR CREATIVITY AND CRITICAL THINKING IN VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT
By M.J. Lellatom Secretary, Ghana Art Teachers Association (GATA), C/o Ayawaso Sub-Metro Education Office, Kotobabi, Box NT1, Accra New Town. E-mail: lellatom@hotmail.com Cell: 020-8127748) As Vocational Education is crucial for total national development anywhere, Creativity and Critical thinking becomes imperative. The aim is to reduce poverty as too many people are unable to attain their maximum in reaching high on the academic ladder due to poverty. Baiden (1996) maintains there is need to develop human resources to help maintain the economy on the path of steady growth, through such art-related job opportunities that involve the visual (fine) arts of drawing and painting also. Though Lellatom (2007) argues Ghana is endowed with such renowned Artists like Caren-Barbara Tayviah, Deputy Creative Director of Unik Image, he agrees there is still a rise annually in unemployment statistics among the educated in the formal sector. It is unlikely that any other list could remain complete for very long as new demands and technological advancement offer unique opportunities for people with interests and talent in art to enhance national economic development. Only the sky is thus their limit. Write your abstract here.
