A test is a toll of assessing a child’s standing in the class. It provides the teacher the idea what tools and strategies to use in order to improve classroom instruction. Like all tools, wrong use of test can hinder its usefulness. On the other, good evaluation can make teaching more transparent and reliable.
Testing is a form of assessment.
assessment on the other hands, include such evaluations like
performance and portfolio assessment, rating scales, checklist, among others. Because a test has no preconceived biases to whomever takes it, it can give a reliable data which can be useful in decision making.
The main objective of testing is to gather unbiased information from the student. These information are used to weigh the student’s standing in the class. As a teacher, you must be able to appreciate and show the function that an objective test can give in decision making. Teachers are also the ones responsible of the daily evaluations like quizzes and recitations.
There are also some types of test given by school heads, other than the teacher. These tests often include selection, placement, guidance and counseling. These tests are given in standardized way.
In constructing a test, it is best to follow an objective which can direct a teacher in formulating the right evaluation tool. A test is simple carried out because (1) it views
learning result; (2) it looks into the special behaviors displayed by the learners; and (3) it measure a learner’s mastery of the topic.
An objective test is one of the types of test. Included in this form of test are true-or-false, matching type, multiple choice, and the completion.
A true-or-false test eats little time from the examinee. The
answer is susceptible to guessing and the solely depends upon the instinct of the student.
Matching items are easier to make. But most of the time, a matching type test lacks clarity in direction and descriptions are sometimes reversed from the option.
A multiple choice tests is the most difficult to construct. But it is subject to several defaults, including grammatical cues or specific determiners, lack of problem statement in the stem, repetitive words, application of “all of the above,” and the distinguish use of “none of the above.”
Completion test, like the true or false, is easy to construct. Guessing is minimized since a specific answer is being asked in the question. Among the disadvantage of this form of test is the numerous blanks, too many potential answers, and no problem is stated.
An essay test is another form of test. Here, instead of making the students select for the answer, they must supply for the answer. Essay tests are usually written in paragraph forms. It also comes with explanation to support the answer and to strengthen your view about your choice.
A performance assessment test is a test answerable by neither using pencil nor paper. It is best used in assessing once effectivity in practical applications of the lesson. A good performance assessment test includes hands-on exercises and observable outcomes.
The last form of test is a portfolio. A portfolio is a collection of the entire output of the learner for the term or for the semester. Portfolios are oftentimes used as an evidence of learning presented to parents about the child’s achievement inside the classroom. Portfolios are oftentimes required to students in order to exhibit the education that they have acquired in the class.
On the other hand, marking tests is a very difficult job to do. Marks are important since it is used to provide the data about the learner’s accomplishments. It must reflect the student’s standing inside the classroom, not the teacher’s level of favoritism for the child. In grading a child’s performance, and in a manner that a teacher will avoid subjection of grades, there is a set of weighing factors raised fortransparent grading. Included are the recitations, quizzes, attendance, and attitudes of the child.
