Things are much easier to learn when we have a buddy or someone to learn it with. It makes the learning process more
fun and less hard to do. Here are some tips to for you and your
child to make learning reading a fun and happy way for both of you. STEP 1. MAKE a reading pair with your child. Both of you will have your roles, your child will pick the book he likes and you give words of encouragement or praise (ex. "That is a wonderful book!)STEP 2. FIND a quiet and comfortable place for both of you, one that is away from all the elements that could distract both of you from the reading activity (staying in front of the TV is a big no no!)STEP 3. LOOK at the cover and ask your child to describe it, ask him what he sees in the
picture and what he thinks the story is all about. It would be more exciting to know if your child guessed the story just by looking at the picture.STEP 4. READ the book aloud together. You can also read it taking turns, if you notice your child struggles to catch up with your pace, then read slowly. This will also give him an idea how to pronounce certain words correctly.STEP 5. WHEN he makes a mistake, just stop reading, point to the word, read the word, and then let your child repeat it while looking at the word.STEP 6. REMEMBER that you are doing it to have fun, this is not a punishment for him, so if he makes a mistake do not make your child feel bad about it.STEP 7. GIVE your child a feeling of success. After you have finished reading the story, let him color the picture or let him draw out his own picture on what he remembers about the story, after that ask your child to tell you the story again, this will improve his memory and sequencing skills.JUST remember, two heads are better than one!
