Personal Statement Sample
My five year experiences on education have transformed my intelligent, attitude, and professional goal into a special character that has a powerful passion toward the development, expansion, and evolution of Indonesian education system, especially in Bengkulu province. I prove these by achieving my undergraduate degree which is only for three years eight months. Then I currently get International Fellowship Program, a scholarship funded by Ford Foundation, one year after my graduation. Now, I am applying master’s program on Educational Technology in this University.
My teaching career formally started in 2007, when I was offered to teach English at SD IT Iqra’ in Bengkulu City. I continued ny career by teaching at SMP IT Iqra’ Bengkulu city, SMA 06 Bengkulu city, International Education Programs, Ganesha Operation, and after graduation I got an offer to be English Instructor at UPT Bahasa Inggris Universitas Bengkulu, an English laboratory. Universitas Bengkulu, the most prestigious university in Bengkulu province, Indonesia, was a place where I accomplished my bachelor degree. In this University, I had responsibility for teaching English to some departments, such as Law, Match, Accounting, Chemistry, Biology, Machine Engineering, and Economics. Beside, I also had responsibility for teaching English in Nursing and Midwife academic.
These teaching experiences have trained me about how to devise original teaching plans, select of teaching materials, manipulate actively the classroom activities, and choose the most effective teaching strategies. At the time, I modified unvaried conventional English teaching strategies by doing creative ways, for instance using visual media, mini plays, role play, drama, classroom debates, and out-bond ,and I united the learners needs, materials, and facilities in my teaching practice. This enabled me to see how my ideas and innovative talents were transmuted into desired results.
Out of my teaching career, I have developed a heartfelt for this profession. I have been awarded a succession of honors that endow me with a strong sense of pride and achievement. Those include the runner up in idea competition provincial level, the publication of my articles in bilingual newspaper, and the participant of JICA Japan seminar. Furthermore, I started to do social activities since I was in university. I serviced the society by establishing a community learning centre, named “Chevro Organization”. This community concerned on English education. It was founded in 2007. The programs were divided into two parts; for rich people and poor people. The difference is only on the fee; for rich people there were certain costs, and for poor people were free.
I apply for master in educational technology because I would like to learn more about distance learning. I plan to establish an institution that concerns on education, and the community learning centre that I founded will be the pioneer. This institution will fulfill the education needs in remote areas by developing creative technologies that fix with the people needs. It is my conviction that in this program, I will get advanced educational theories, technology and information that facilitate me immensely in the achievement of remarkable progress, fulfilling my aspiration to become an accomplished professional in the field of education. I hope that the admission committee finds my background strengths commensurate with the requirement of the master program in educational technology.
