DEVELOPMENT AT WHAT COST?

Article Summary by: Anonymous

Original Author: SIVA PRASAD DANTU
DEVELOPED
NATIONS-FUTURE COSTS
Every country wants to join the DEVELOPED nations club.
Development for
nations means a good standard of life, high purchasing power
and security and comforts. But many of the frontline developed nations caused
more damage to themselves and the other countries by huge waste and abuse of
natural resources there by causing permanent environmental damage that speeds
up the whole world into collapse.
The newly developing nations too joined the race now. If
India and China the two most populous countries in the world increase the per
capita energy consumption levels, to that of the developed nations, the end of
the world will be much sooner.
Imagine for example the number of cars per house hold in US
compared to India or China. If both
these countries too because of the increasing purchasing power start adding
number of personal cars to that of the developed nations, the emissions from
these vehicles will ensure that we can see over the globe only clouds of
pollution and not Sun any more. Like wise, if the per capita Oil consumption of
these countries match that of the US, then the entire hydro carbon reserves
will be exhausted much sooner adding to the global warming and making life
inhabitable. Like wise, now a days the aircraft manufacturing companies have a
field day with both India
and China
placing huge orders for passenger air craft. When these air craft join the
skies in full strength, the environmental damage to earth will tear the ozone
shield that is protecting the earth.
Hence developed and developing nations should sit together
and see what best can be done to prevent the damage from so called development.
Like wise, with the increasing urbanization, summers are becoming un bearable
and the air conditioners are becoming common in developing nations too. What
the air conditioner does is that it throws out hot air from homes and increase
power consumption multiple times there by increasing energy needs.
Development at the cost of future generations will be in
excusable. Development means providing facilities for leading a contended life.
Development should nor fuel unwanted or damage causing desires for the sake of
the future of the planet and the generations.
Development without damage calculations should not be
permitted. Things that are unnecessary should not be encouraged.
Development should not be judged by the number of cars, air
conditioners, per capita power consumption, per capita steel consumption etc.
Development should be planned in such a way to cause least damage to
environment and driving the people from the market economy. Develop where it is
needed. Don’t confuse development with physical comforts alone.
