LEADERSHIP STYLE OF URBAN BARANGAY CHAIRMEN

Book Summary by: VoMaNi

Original Author: Dr. Anna C. Bocar
LEADERSHIP STYLE OF URBAN BARANGAY CHAIRMEN IN OZAMIZ CITY
Most  political  leaders,  government  officials,  employees  and  citizens want  their country  to be good ones, so development of  the country  is a major  function of political  activity  because  past  successes  are  no  guarantee  of  future  ones.  Leaders  should  seek  information  on  how  to  become  more  effective.  Leadership  ability  of  an  individual  provide  special  asset  to  their  organizations.    In  the  face  of  these  demands,  political  leaders of Ozamiz City  in fifteen  urban barangays are reliazing  that  they can no longer rely on traditional political leadership techniques to satisfy their roles- they must draw on  deeper sources of guidance, strength, and influence. And the product of their  realization   can  be  attained  by  revisiting  their  roles  to  create  structures  that  adapt  the  political  pressures.                This  research  examines  the  leadership  roles  of  the  urban Barangay  chairmen  of  Ozamiz City to be able to cope with the new trends of the future.  This study is anchored  on the principle of Cunningham (2003) who said “ leaders of today cannot be successful  without having a broad understanding of the social, political and economic dynamics that  influence and are  shaped by global competition .Leadership  is one of  roles assumed by  government officials. Lipham  (2004) and his colleagues have developed a “  four  factor  theory”  of  leadership  namely:  structured,  facilitative,  supportive,    and  participative leadership.                  The  findings  in  this  study  shows  that  the  urban  barangay  chairmen  manifested their structured, facilitative, supportive and participative  leadership at a very  great  extent  as  determined  by  their  officials  and  by  themselves.  The  four  groups  of  respondents  revealed  that  there were  significant  differences  in  the evaluations made by  the barangay chairmen, council members, health workers and purok presidents, as to the   leadership style performances.
