Dreams are vehicles through which our mind communicates ideas, warnings and health issues. Many dreams even communicate the
FUTURE. In order to understand dreams and there significance to our life and environment, it’s sacrosanct that we analyse them and hence, successfully interpret them.
Dream analysis as a concept emerges from Freud’s psychoanalytic approach which states that human behaviour is influenced by unconscious drives, one of which being dreams. This contribution of Freud, although controversial but attributes to a large part of psychology.
The simplest way to dream analysis is remembering your dream and writing it down. Many people maintain a DREAM DIARY where they exclusively write about their dreams.
Another option would be to verbally recall the dream as you can speak faster than write. Verbal recall can also help you fit in every detail of the dream in your analysis and help you analyse the tone of your voice. Speaking requires less concentration and hence a better recall on the spot but you may forget what you say later.
The most
important pre requisite to recalling of dreams is getting enough sleep. One should not develop a sleep debt, as the lesser the sleep, the more difficult is the dream analysis. Along with that one should be relaxed and take care of his health.
It’s fascinating to note that EVERY DREAM one experiences is based on a theme. Themes set the tone for interpretation. Check this out-
One of my friends once saw a dream, which she described as follows: I had a dream of a beautiful hall with shiny marble floors and incredible works of art on the walls. The pictures were framed in solid gold. There were flowers in the corner, and they were breathtaking. The ceiling was cathedral style, with graceful arches with ornate carvings. I got the distinct impression that I was alone, and in charge of its upkeep. And then I heard a faint scratching sound from the other end of the hall. I hurried down there and zeroed in on the sound. To my horror a mouse was chewing on the corner of a magnificent painting. I realized that if I do nothing at all about it, the work would be rendered worthless and ugly. But I knew if I caught the mouse I could save the painting since little to no damage had been done. I was uncertain I could get the mouse in time. I woke up feeling disappointed and full of remorse, as I did not want to see something so important to me destroyed.
The theme in this dream is TRAGEDY in one’s personal life- something might be ruined, and this something is important to you. It also suggests that if something like this happens (in an emergency) it’s important not to panic and try taking things lightly so as to reduce anxiety. Therefore, themes indicate the bigger picture of the dream and these themes can have a link to one’s life. That’s where dreams play a major role in our life, when there themes hold relevance in our life. With the purpose to identify this relevance it is important to know most dreams are not prophetic, they are usually about the dreamer itself.
Along with dealing with the question of “what the dream means”, dream analysis involves “what specific area of life is the dream about.” The theme of every non-prophetic dream corresponds to the dreamer, and then he should be able to place it in some aspect or condition in life. Therefore, it is necessary to ask our selves 2 chief questions:
What element of life is precious to me and is signified in the dream?
Is there any possibility that that specific element can be damaged or hurt in any way, as indicated by the dream?
Often this can be understood by universal symbols constituting dreams such as animals, people and death. Some of them have been listed below:
ANIMALS- they symbolize our own traits, good and bad
VEHICLES/AUTOMOBILES- reflect the direction one is heading in and ones body
CHILDREN- a child represents something new,
different and joyous
CLOTHING-when one gets into different moods, one goes for different types of clothes, hence clothes symbolize moods or states of mind
DEATH- any dream involving a death, attending a funeral or some sort of dying, it pertains to change in one’s life
BUILDINGS- usually pertain to a specific area of life such as your workplace or your neighbour’s house etc
PEOPLE-most often people portrayed in dreams are a reflection of your own personality traits
These symbols hold grave importance in dream analysis and interpretation. Dreams are also efficient symbols of one life. They can address multiple issues on multiple topics in one story line. A dream can warn you of health dangers, predict the future, point out personality flaws or credits and solve a current problem all in one dream! Some dreams are worthy of repeated analysis, and just because you can come up with two or three interpretations, does not mean that only one can be right, in fact they could ALL easily be right (or wrong for that matter).
goodbye for now and SWEET DREAMS!!!!
