As the title suggests, this book provides a deep investigation of the
cognitive psychology bases. Opposite to other
elementary cognitive
psychology texts, this book keeps the focus in the topics on debate
without distracting the reader. Reed and Ellis work presents excellent
experimental results that support and reject
cognitive psychology''s
main theories. The writing style shows a rational argument and in this
way it doesn''t lead the reader to to accept certain theories having
only the book as base. The authors'' attention to details is excellent,
starting by introducing cognitive psychology, its historical roots,
passing by the behaviourism fall and giving place to the theories of
processing information adopted by cognitive psychology. The book
continues with perceptive processes and its relation to attention,
starting to introduce memory theories and studies such as active
memory. It also studies false memory''s implications, of significant
importance in our legal system, language education and linguistic
studies area concepts, being its final aspect the thinking
summarization and problems resolution, cognitive emotion, once again
memory such as cognition target topics. Another big aspect of this book
is the way as the authors connect cognitive psychology to neurology,
more based in biology, explaining how some theories need to to be
completely established, and problems such as in the attention area are
very well approached. In its whole this book is an excellent company of
the psychology student at the degree level.
