Collins English Dictionary defines personality as the sum
total of all behavioural and mental characteristics by means of which an
individual is recognised as unique.
Appreciating that
people are created and born differently,Greek philosopher Hippocrates developed
4 general personalities and classified them as sanguines(attention
seekers),melancholics(perfectionists),cholerics(controllers) and
phlegmatics(peacemakers).
Deeper analysis
shows that the abundance of blood in a person yields the sanguines and this
gives them a lot of energy without enough thought.A concentration of yellow
bile breeds a second person and that is a melancholic whose mood swings are
unpredictable but sensitive to issues.On the other hand,an excess in black bile
results in a desire of power and control hence the cholerics.
Lastly,scientists
say production of phlegm(a sticky mucus secreted by the walls of the
respiratory tract) is what yields laziness or slowness,thus the phlegmatics.
Due to this
genetic input,partners miss the point when they try to change a persons trait
to fit into what they want.A personality is inborn.Any attempt to arm-twist a
person to be what you like is bound to backfire.Contrary to many,a personality
match is not actually looking for a person who is like yourself.Studies in
America and Britain have shown that people with similar personalities find it
difficult to cope with each other.In her book personality plus,Littaeur
suggests that people who differ in personality can make a successful couple if
only they appreciate the fact they are naturally different.
Therefore,my
friends who are still dating with an ambition to marry i think this article
will not be an assumption.
