The power of social influence

Book Summary by: AssiaDemil

Original Authors: Hafsa; Benmchich
This abstract was translated from Le pouvoir de l'influnece sociale
Influence refers to that invisible and magic power.
We are responsible and autonomous people though sceptical and much
inclined to be unvoluntarily influenced.
Yet, the number of things we experience is more important than the one which refers to the things we''ve been tought or recommended from outside. We''ve all heard that the Scots were greedy for money, the English as too phlegmatic, the Italians as not serious, the Asians as hard workers and the French as open and scrupulous.
As for Moroccans, they are said to be welcoming to visitors, indifferent to events and respectful with regard to desire.
In social psychology,it has been observed that what we think about foreigners living in a community is closely related to the feeling one has for the the home country group where he belongs.
Ethnocentrism and xenophobia are not only personal attitudes  but also attitudes  created and exerted on people by groups along with governement institutions themselves.
when an individual''s thoughts or actions conform to the government''s constrains,it refers to compliance.
The normative influence which is widely spread in Morocco describes the people who appear to agree with others not only to get their approval but also in order not to be rejected.
Many forms of social influence power are often put to practical use and among them, identification, clearly illustrated by a Moroccan''s behavior in the super market. when he feels sort of compelled to fill up his trolley not because he needed all those goods but just because the others did . In Morocco, Identification is the most harmful influence ever because it leads to a loss of one''s own identity.
Social influence, as it''s defined today refers to situations where an individual''s actions are affected by an other person, leading to changes of attitude,of opinion and perception of things along with the way one behaves.
Social influence takes many forms and can be transmitted from one person to another person or to a group through restrictions,
feelings or whatever means to exert pressure.

    The power of social influence

social influence effects everyone that lives in a community, or at least interacts with a group. as long as you are a part of society it will influence you. i can’t agree with your claim that what the individual experiences is more important, because social influences have a tendency to influence our experience
