This is an interesting book on an often-misunderstood subject. Hypnotherapy is often associated with stage hypnosis. Whilst both use the same techniques they are two different things. For the hype that usually surrounds stage hypnosis it is often leads to the misunderstanding of hypnotherapy and mistrust of hypnotherapists. In fact, hypnotherapy is one of the oldest psychological treatments techniques with a variety of applications and forms (chapter 15). The book goes through hypnotherapy basics within five parts consisting of 19 chapters. The book is directed towards someone who is interested in the subject but does not know much about hypnosis. Thus, it skips the theoretical details and focus more on practical aspects of hypnotherapy as it applies to mild daily uses, e.g. getting over phobias. It also provides advise on both selecting a hypnotherapist and hypnotherapy training programs. The interest in alternative medicine has revived the interest in hypnotherapy especially for giving up smoking and coping with stress. The business application of hypnosis-based technique, known as NLP, has also opened the door for a wider utilization of hypnosis and hypnotherapy. It is a good book to start with especially hypnotherapy field is crowded with all sorts of contradictory advice. I found part II and chapter 14 to be most interesting parts of the book.
