NATIONAL HEROES DAY (August 26 or the Last Sunday of August): A Day Dedicated to the Fallen Soldiers!

What is a hero?  Is he one who gives up his life for another or for country?  Does he fly around in a red cape with his underwear on the outside?  Or does he wear a belt with his black undies?  Regardless of how you define a hero, we can all agree that he is one who is willing sacrifice that which is valuable to him for the sake and safety of another.
About 2 weeks ago, 14 Philippine Marines were killed in an ambush in war torn Basilan while on a mission to rescue a kidnapped Italian priest.  Not satisfied with these kills, these terrorists had to do the ultimate act of desecration: beheading 10 of the marines.  A week after that, another 10 marines were killed in ambush by the very same terrorists who did such barbaric acts.
And yet despite this dedication of our soldiers, what have we done as citizens of the Philippines in honor of these brave souls who risk life and limb every waking moment to protect the very freedom that we cherish?  Better yet, what have we contributed to protect our own freedom?
Until you find your answer within your own soul, I say to all Marines all over the world:  SEMPER FI!  With our deepest honor and gratitude I salute you!
