This monograph presents an incisive account of the deplorable socio-economic conditions of the
people of more than 50 villages
affected by Kahalgaon Power Plant located in Bhagalpur
district of Bihar. Due to inadequate compensation and absence of a holistic
rehabilitation package, majority of the project affected people failed to reconstruct their livelihoods once their pieces of land -the ultimate source of their subsistence -were acquired by the district administration in 1986-87. Ever since, they are living in abject poverty and paying the price for development.
