CHILD RIGHTS
20th Nov.is child rights day. There is an interesting story behind it. Very first time one lady Aglantine Jebb, a British had proposed child rights before international platform like “League of Nations” in 1924.So, she is considered the first woman who thought on child rights.
Then, in1959,’Charter of children rights’ was passed by United Nations.Afterwards, in 1989 a comprehensive memorandum was passed by UNO.
Today, it is said that, nearabout 40000 children suffered by mal-nutrition and various ailments and finally died.10 cores children are spoiling their childhood in hazardous works. This is the fact existed in every country. In that regard, very important summit was called at New York on Sep.30, 1990.All issues related to child development were discussed there and strategies of its implementation were chocked out.
First important thing accepted in this summit is that child has separate identity and personality. So let them bloom their own and each govt.should provide suitable atmosphere. The basic rights of any child according to 1989 declaration are---
1. Right to survive
2. Right to education
3. Right to escort
4. Right to participate.
Apart from this, there is other some important rights which are the necessity of any child grow properly. It is not enough to pass such declarations on paper, but much importance should be given to its implementation. Like in India, child education is included in Fundamental Rights of constitution. A biggest project like,Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is introduced, and targeted to enroll every school going child by 2010. Huge fund is declared for it and well-planned efforts are going on. Such kind of schemes can be proved very effective and considerable to any nation.
