One of the highlights of every Chinese New Year celebration is the dragon dance. Performed by skilled individuals holding up the dragon using poles, it is believed to bring good fortune. Centuries later, this tradition has spread worldwide, including the Ohilippines wherein the Chinese New Year celebrations are incomplete without it.

The Chinese people respect the dragon. Unlike in Western nations, where this mythical creatures is thought to represent evil, in China, dragons are highly regarded for their power, goodness, fertility, vigilance and poise.

The dragon dance is one way of expressing gratitude for the dragon. When performed during the Chinese New Year, the dance is a symbol of good lick and prosperity in the coming year.

These dances are perforemed day or night.. When perforemed during night time, someone needs to carry a blazing torch o illuminate the start of the procession.
