Sri lanka produces one third of the best tea in the world. It grows in altitudes thusands of meters above sea level and is hand-picked. The tea is then sorted and processed in plants, which are more than one hundred year old. Buddha found enligtement while he sat under the Bo tree, a sacred tree in Sri lanka usaully growing near temples. One of the greatest Buddist relics s Buddha`s tooth,preserved in a golden bowl in the temple of Kandy.It is holy because it came from Buddha`s mouth, which uttered the greatest truths.In Sri Lanka the elephant is a holy animal. The mother of Prince Siddharta (Buddha) had seen a white elephant in a dream immediately before she gave birth. To this day such a vision is interpreted as a good omen. According to a legend, King Solomon used to send his emissaries to this island to buy precious stones for Queen of Sheba.The laregst saphire in the world, weighing more than 400 carats was found in Ratnapur, Sri Lanka.It is set in the Brittish Crown. They call it "blue beauty of Asia".The saphire set in Princess Diana`s wedding ring is also famous. A poor miner had dug this precious stone out of clay,literally with his bare hands,and sold it for 200 Punds.Later this precious stone reached the fantastic price of 250,000 Pounds!
