American people were so fun of taking care pets. Almost all of
American citizens choose dogs as their pets. A part of them also keep cats,
mice, birds even pigs. Generally, they threat their pets with special
treatment. They give them names, clothes, taking them to the beauty centre,
even for them who were very rich, they put on diamond necklaces to their pets
which were very expensive.
The “Dewey-Kucing Perpustakaan Kota Kecil Yang Bikin Dunia Jatuh
Hati” book is a real prove of American people madness to a pet. This book was
written based on true story of a public library director in Spencer, Iowa,
Vicky Myron. This English-original-language book that translated into
Indonesian and published by Serambi Ilmu Semesta is having the predicate of The
International Best Seller.
Dewey, which than named Dewey Readmore Books was found by Vicky in a
book return box in a frozen winter morning.
That time Dewey almost died because of chilled and hunger. With tender,
Vicky washed Dewey and gave him food. And then Vicky allowed him live in the
library although the uncongenial librarian council and a part of the library’s
visitors refused Dewey. But finally Dewey’s sweetness was changes all the
uncongenial opinions and made Dewey loves by everyone.
Actually, obsession of the Spencer public library’s visitors was not
just because Dewey is a cat. No! But Dewey is such a sweet cat, both his face
and his daily behavior. Dewey likely understands when there is a visitor who
was sad. Dewey always searches this type of visitor and tries to sit on his lap
to entertain him.
Dewey loves Vicky so much, also all the library’s employees and
visitors as well. One time there was an autistic child who afraid of cat and
all the things in the library. She was escorted by her mother in a wheel chair
and she watched her surroundings with fears. Dewey was approaching her and in
the beginning that child screamed. But Dewey continued approaching her and
tried hard to make the child like him. Dewey made it. Next, Dewey had made the
child more open and not afraid with her surroundings anymore. Dewey always spared
his time to jump on the child’s lap for some times when he saw the child came
with her mother. And if the child did not see Dewey, emitted on her face
sadness until Dewey came and cheered her.
Dewey also cares with the library he lived in. One night where he
was always alone in the library, Dewey saw a bat. He tried to expel the bat
with peed the places that the bat stopped by. With that, Dewey wanted to assert
that he was the one who rule that place, not that uninvited bat. Of course the
library’s entire employees felt disturb by Dewey’s act. Whereas usually Dewey
peed in the place prepared for him. They thought that Dewey was in trouble. But
when the employees realized that a bat had lost and enter the library’s
building, they were very thankful for Dewey’s attention. After the bat
expelled, of course Dewey did not peed in anyplace anymore.
Every weekend Vicky always brought Dewey to her house. Vicky is a
single parent with a growing up daughter. As commonly growing up children, the
emotion stability of Vicky’s daughter was very unstable so that Vicky was
always quarreled with her daughter. Dewey’s presence very helped them to fix
the relationship because with Dewey’s attendance they both can talk each other
more often though the conversation is only about Dewey’s cuteness. But thereby
they become more intimate because of Dewey’s presence among them.
When Vicky’s daughter was in the adulthood, she chooses to leave
Spencer. One time she comes home with her fiancé. She was introduced the man to
Dewey. And because Dewey was like that man, Vicky’s daughter was having no
doubt to receive the man’s proposal to marry him. The man afterwards really
becomes a very kind husband for her.
Dewey finally died because Vicky decided to end his suffered by dead
injection. Vicky could not stand watching Dewey suffer because his illness
which he had has for a long time. Time by time, Dewey become more weak because
his old and his serious illness. Dewey’s stomach was harden so that he could
not peed regularly and he was also did not want to eat. Difficultly, Vicky
brought him to the vet to having a dead injection. In order to memorizing
Dewey, Vicky buried Dewey’s ash under the library windows and invited all the
library’s visitors in the program to memorize Dewey.
