Walk to shed off excess weight.

One of the biggest secrets of weight loss is also one of the simplest. A daily walk, done right, can really shift the scales in your favour. Anyone can reduce excess weight but a family history of heavy arms, big stomach means that any weight gained over your ideal weight will be centered around these areas.

So the first thing to do is to measure your ideal weight. A simple way of calculation is to take your height in centimeters and then subtract 100 from it. For example, if your height is 170cms, your ideal weight would be about 70kg plus or minus 2 kg. So before you start dieting, you could do something positive – like walking, because, if you continue to exercise you will have a better chance of keeping weight off. All crash diets or fad diets are harmful to body.

The biggest gift you can give yourself is to make a mental commitment to walk 20-30 minutes every day. Despite our busy schedules and even as we push our minds and bodies to meet so many targets and challenges, the least we can do is to set apart some time for ourselves. So instead of indulging in tasty treats, you could indulge yourself everyday to a brisk, invigorating walk. Fitting a few minutes of walking into your schedule is not impossible, if you organize your time well.

Walking is the ultimate body toner, as it exercises 90 percent of the 500 odd muscles in your body at one time. Keep your tummy muscles tight and firm when you walk and breathe well and don’t talk. You must keep track of the approximate time taken for a walk. When you introduce walking to your everyday schedule, don’t attempt to do 3 kilometers per hour from day one. Build it up gradually and in a week’s time you will notice that your stamina has improved.

And the good news is walking lowers bad cholesterol in our body(Low Density Lipoprotein) and increases the good cholesterol(High Density Lipoprotein) and regulates blood sugar levels.

Walking needs to be built into your lifestyle as one of the ways to a healthier you.
Enjoy your walking!!
