Role of Newspaper in Education

The basic role of Newspaper is to educate and instruct. But in the consumer-oriented world of the 21st century, newspapers have lost right of their Primary responsibility. They are full of advertisements, promotion campaigns, attractive photographs and a minimum of news. Such news generally relate to crime and anti-social activities besides the speeches of politicians in power. Newspaper must revert by educating the masses and helping them formulate their opinions on the issues of the day. It is heartening to learn that some leading newspapers have been taking keen interest in promoting educational activities in out cities and rural areas. These include holding debates, seminars, elocution and quiz contests as well as sponsoring prominent educational institutions in the furtherance of their academic pursuits. This is a welcome development in the materialistic life of today and newspaper must continue such activities side by side with their profit motives.
