Democrats Desire A Dialogue With President On Federal Budget To keep the Federal Government operating-
Congressional Democrats sought a compromise with President Bush on the
Federal Budget. Robert Pear of the New York Times reported that Speaker
of the United States House of Representative Nancy Pelosi (Democrat of
California) and United States Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of
Nevada want to confer with President Bush to iron out a compromise on
the Fiscal 2009 Federal Budget. Writing to President Bush- Speaker
Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Reid stated that they believe a
compromise with him on the budget would occur. The Democratic Leaders
said that they differed with the President over one percent of the
Federal Budget or about 22 billion dollars in spending. While traveling
on a Nashville, Tennessee trip- President Bush castigated congress for
``providing too much home heating assistence for low-income people, too
much money for Amtrack and not enough foreign aid for Pakistan and
Colombia.`` Many Republicans sided with Democrats in pushing through
the Appropriation Bill in the House of Representatives. Amazingly some
House Republicans asked for greater spending than the Democrats
proposed.
