Large number of Indians are living below proverty line.They are hungry people who need help from a body known as Government -“ A Government has no conscience, some times it has a policy, but nothing more.”Many state governments formed the Public Distribution System(PDS) for the people living below poverty line. But a report in Recent News paper says the food grains worth Rs 31500 crore has been siphoned off the PDS by depriving the poor living below poverty line.PDS has become the source of income for black marketers,corrupt babus,rationshop owners and various other people. This can not permitted for ever,the economy will collapse if large percentage of the population goes hungry for long time.The care of human life and happiness,not their destruction,is first and only object Of good government but we should think beyond asking government To revamp the food distribution system.The beneficiaries of PDS are very much un-organised and incapable of exercising their right to their subsidized food. Now,PDS users think themselves as Consumers and take a lead to forma PDS user’s group that can pressurize Govt to improve delivery system. An organized group may change the system and their collective voice might be heard by the power corridor. The state should make revamp of law and siphoning off food meant for needy should be treated as Treason,not merely as corruption.Corrupt ration distributors,public officers should be booked in Terror law. Pilferage of public goods to be treated as threat to the country’s internal security and punish accordingly.
