Road Safety

Book Summary   by:dhawanbm     Original Author: Dhawanbm
ª

With each passing day traffic is increasing on the roads. We find new vehicles hitting the roads every now and then. With the burgeoning population, more and more vehicles are making way on roads. This has led to a lot of traffic congestion. Perhaps roads which are meant to take users to their destinations are virtually turning to be death traps. The situation is very grim as people just do not want to obey the traffic rules and flaunt the laws. Fatal road accidents have become order of the day. It seems that every one is in a hurry to reach their destination. People seldom follow the road signs or obey traffic signals. The youngsters are in a state of frenzy as they zoom past other vehicles. They ride their mean machines at full throttle and in the process put the lives of other road users in danger. It is the pedestrians who are the worst sufferers as they face the wrath of rash driving. Statistics show that more than 80% of all road accidents occur due to human error. Modern lifestyle and ultramodern living conditions entail mad rush and craze for outdoing others is also equally responsible for tragedy on roads. Most of the road users are poor drivers with no road sense.
Road signs are mere decorations to many and lane sense doesn’t exist. For many a youth pressing throttle and hands on deafening horns is a sign of macho-man. Jumping traffic red light signal and teasing a cop is an act of heroism for most of them. Corrupt police force only compounds the problem of road mismanagement. Violators are often let off easily after getting their palms greased where as the rich and influential and drunk people consider it their right to maraud pedestrians and other small fries of the road. The need of the hour is to implement road safety rules strictly. Efficient traffic management is too needed. Encroached roads must be reclaimed, road signs accurately designed and installed where ever necessary. Rules of the road and road safety must be widely popularized. Public awareness is a must and lastly strict implementation of law can effectively ensure road safety.
