The government slogan “Fear HIV, not HIV patient” is seem to be worthless at the village khaira in Darbhanga, Bihar where nobody is ready to give shoulder to the body of Surendra Kumar, an HIV patient, to the cremation site, after his death or even to console his wife and two children, fearing infection.

Finally the crestfallen wife dragged his body at the backyard of the house and performed the last rites. No one camp up with the word of sympathy to the bereaved family.

Surendra get infected with HIV in Mumbai, where he worked. Gradually his condition deteriorated, leading to his death. After his death, now it is turn of his wife and children lalit (13) and Gulab (10) and a 10 month old baby to face the truth of HIV.

It is not the only one case of Bihar, a few years ago , a family was ostrcised in Hathauri village of Muzaffarpur district after the death of four person of the family due to HIV/AIDS. The villagers treated that family as pariah fearing infection.
